Perhaps one of the greatest diseases plaguing the Church today is Biblical illiteracy. Whether it be simpler concepts like not knowing where to locate the various books of the Bible between the front and back covers, what each book is about, the differences between the Biblical characters; or more complex ideas such as the transmission of the Biblical texts throughout time, theological concepts woven throughout the Scriptures, eschatological teachings; I aim to equip believers with the right tools and knowledge to eradicate their own illiteracy so that they are enabled to properly witness to the lost.

Having worked in a few churches over the last ten or so years, I’ve noticed a pattern in the thinking of the congregants. They see the immense size of their Bibles and become immediately overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information it contains. But there is nothing to fear and no better time to start learning than now!

Others think they know what’s in the Bible. They read their daily devotionals and Christian newsletters, watch YouTube debate videos or the latest God’s Not Dead movie and think they’ve absorbed Scripture when really all they did is absorb things that are about Scripture. While there is nothing inherently wrong with those things, they are not substitutes for reading and knowing Scripture. Trust me, I’m guilty of that. Are you?

Aionia aims to engage and motivate the reader to read and dive into Scripture. The Bible isn’t too complicated to understand. It is here for the instruction, edification, and sanctification of the believer. Are you a believer? Then you’re the target audience. Listen up.
